The Flapjack Who Stole My Birthday

Sorry for my absence this week! I've been preparing to run my first 5K at 8AM tomorrow, which also happens to be my birthday. I'm sort of regretting this decision since getting up early and running are two of my least favorite activities, but at least I'll be hanging out in Eugene with some of my best (and more athletic) friends.

To make matters worse, I just found out that Krusteaz brand pancake mix always enters a human-size flapjack in the race and then gives anyone who finishes before it a free bag of pancake mix. This flapjack can run a 5K in 18 minutes.

So in the early hours of the anniversary of my 24th year of life, I'm going to be soundly defeated by a flapjack. Happy birthday to me!

Hope you guys have a great weekend, and I'll be back on Monday.

UPDATE: I finished my 5K in 35 minutes, which was way faster than I'd planned for. (FYI--I'd planned for it to take me a few days.) The flapjack was super intimidating and had amazing thighs and actually lapped me, but whatev.

Oh, the humanity! Or, maybe, oh, the humiliating personification of food!

Good luck, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, beautiful!!!

Ah, Eugene. I have so many fond memories of late night chats with campus police there. And by fond memories, I mean fuzzy memories. And by chats, I mean attempts to get out of stupid tickets.

Good luck! Kick that pancake's ass!

I'd be chasing that thing with a huge bottle of syrup!

Holy Toledo that flapjack is selling faster than flapjacks.

I know that didn't make any sense but cmon - 18 minutes?

does this make you slower than molasses?

I don't know, that sounds like the start to a great birthday! Or, at the very least, a great birthday story.

In the pancake's defense, he probably got to be that fast due to being chased by hordes of hungry breakfast-lovers.

I pity the soul that has to run within that flapjack.

My birthday is tomorrow too! Its my 18, which where i live is drinking age. I will spend my birthday studying for my 5 exams next week. I'd rather be beaten by a pancake.

Wow that's one fast pancake! Good luck and happy birthday!

Wow, the only thing I can imagine that is worse is BEING the person in the pancake suit. Poor bastard, just run along for a second and tell him "you look good enough to eat". A fine laydee like you saying that, will definitely make him feel less of a pancake.
And there goes your good deed of the day. You may spend the rest of your birthday in a totally selfish and indulgent way.
Happy birthday girl!

Flapjacks are pretty gross in my opinion, if that makes you feel any better! Good luck and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!!

Wow - somehow when you said "flapjack" I just didn't really realize that you meant a real flapjack. I thought it was code for a fat guy or something.

How does one train to run inside a pancake? Just thinking about the practicality. Does he go out every morning around his neighborhood like that, or wing it as a once off on the day of the race?

Congratulations! 35 minutes is pretty darn good! That pancake is clearly a professional flapjack athelete, I'm quite intimidated myself.
