The mascot at the elementary school where I teach is a raccoon wearing a raccoon-skinned cap. I don't know who missed the irony in choosing this, but I shudder on Martin's behalf whenever I see it in the hallway.
Martin is cute... nutria are nasty... they are basically sewer rats with beaver teeth--nowhere NEAR as cute as Martin with his adorable mask and surprised look!
They have been doing that with possums in New Zealand as well. Apparently they're an invasive introduced species which have been cuttin' up the local wildlife. I still feel sorry for them though! xx Katie.

That's what you get for being an invasive rodent. Stay out of my garbage can, Martin!

This post made me smile. The "Martin no likey" part.
i learned that nurtia is the name of the fur. the animal is called coypu. i skinned one for a class at portland state once.
As much as I dislike invasive rodents, fur kind of grosses me out. Martin, tell your cousins to stay out of my garbage cans!
Me no likey either!
I saw a treed adolescent raccoon on campus yesterday and thought of Martin!
This just makes me think of that Seinfeld where George buys the sable hat and loses it so Kramer hooks him up with a rat fur hat...

I am not for fur, but I am for less nutria.
