It's HER mother's (my great-great grandmother's) engagement ring. Nothing fancy, just an opal on a copper ring, but it's beautiful. There's a picture of my great grandma as a little girl (c. 1915), all decked out in one of those frilly little edwardian outfits, and her mom, wearing a full-length skirt and ruffled blouse with a high collar, is standing behind her with her hand on my great grandma's shoulder. You can see the ring.Jessnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33976691.post-53448566057554543492009-10-17T19:33:32.169-07:002009-10-17T19:33:32.169-07:00Oooh, toughie. My favorite piece of jewelry changes on a regular basis, but for right now it's a really simple bone carved feather necklace from a teensy tiny native american shop in Colorado. When he originally pulled it out, I thought he was going to propose to me. Gladly, he didn't, because at the time we had only been dating for four months, and I probably would have vomited, passed out, or been stricken by some combination of the two. <br /><br />Anyway, he likes to tell me often that the ring is cheap, he didn't have a lot to spend at the time (because he bought it on February 12th), and that it's really not that nice. However, I love it no matter what he says, and he has stopped complaining about his own cheapness ever since I told someone he won it out of a gumball machine. (OK, maybe that didn't happen.)Kristenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17872141550612592780noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33976691.post-2619110893798628322009-10-17T16:52:50.572-07:002009-10-17T16:52:50.572-07:00My favorite piece of jewelry technically isn't...My favorite piece of jewelry technically isn't mine yet. They're a pair of earrings that belong to my mom, but I can't wait to own them one day. They're just a simple pair of earrings with three little dangley chains that have pearls on them ends of them. The pearls are probably the nicest in my mom's collection and the earrings are so delicate and understated and gorgeous. I've just realized I'm pretty bad at describing jewelry, but I love those earrings and am always worried something will happen to them when my mom lets me wear them.Adminhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04920518529292290448noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-33976691.post-89156224136514065812009-10-17T15:52:03.202-07:002009-10-17T15:52:03.202-07:00My absolute favorite piece of jewelry is the anthr...My absolute favorite piece of jewelry is the anthropologie blue bird earring that i got with my aunt. We share the same birthday - July 17th - and on my 18th/her 85th birthday she took me to tea and presented me with the ring. It's gorgeous; gold band & setting with gems of opals & rubies (our birthstone) set in the shape of a royal crown. I was stunned and touched at such a gift, and then my grandmother confessed, "Well, I wanted to give it to you on your twenty-first birthday, but who knows if I'm going to be around for that long!"<br />Oh. Way to kill a great bonding moment, Grandma! It is my grandmother's wedding band, and I wear it on my right ring finger all day, every day, no matter what. It's just a simple little gold band with a tiny diamond in the center, but every time I get a random glimpse of it, it reminds me of my grandma ("farmor") in Denmark. After my grandpa ("farfar") died, my grandma decided to pass down their wedding bands to the women of the family. My aunt got my grandfather's ring, and I got my grandmother's. I already had another necklace of hers, but when I saw a cute heart-shaped locket with a little bird on it, I fell in love. I showed my boyfriend over the internet, but he made no mention of it. Little did I know, he bought it right away! One night, he came over my house by surprise, took me into my room and made me close my eyes while he put the necklace on me. At first, I was just happy that he surprised me, and then I realized it was exactly the necklace I wanted!
