Big Sky Blogging

I'm so sorry for the lack of posts lately!

I'm actually in Montana with my mom, brothers, and boyfriend right now. I packed my laptop in a Betsey Johnson floral totebag (just like Jack Kerouac, right?) so I'd be able to post updates from the road, but then I found out there is no internet in Montana.

Besides the lack of wifi though, I'm loving this beautiful state. Here is a list of notable events/experiences so far:

-Swam in a mountain lake
-Got spit on by a deer
-Saw a black bear
-Saw Professor Keenbean from Richie Rich
-Got an awkward back rub from a waiter at a Mexican restaurant
-Acted out some key scenes from Harry Potter
-Saw a mountain goat and a baby mountain goat
-Had to hide from a couple of Skeksis from The Dark Crystal
-Got in trouble for laughing too loud on a train

At one point on a hike in Glacier National Park, I was overcome by the natural setting and sat down by a raging river to sing "Mother Nature's Son" and whittle a spear from a birch branch. Photo evidence:

I'll be back to blogging ASAP, but for now I'll be whittling and trying not to get eaten by a grizzly bear. Hope you guys have a great week!

I want to hear more about the deer spitting.

Have fun!

P.S. Does having deer spit on you make you more or less attractive to grizzlies? Inquiring minds want to know.

How on EARTH does one get spit on by a deer?

Somehow it doesn't surprise me that Skeksis kick it in Montana--and I'm assuming the scene you acted out from Harry Potter was the snake slaughter?

Sounds like an amazing trip! Good luck with evading death by grizzly!

This deer spitting business clearly needs a post of its own.
My friend's story about bears:
He went tree-planting and since there's nothing to do when surrounded by trees, he got high on some shrooms. Naturally everyone else in the group had some shrooms. My friend spotted a bear near the campsite and collectively, the group decided they had to chase away the bear with axes. But first, they had to have a quick conversation about how great the axes were.
To quote my friend who came back with a scruffy beard: "I've never felt more Canadian"

You'd better post pictures of those Skeksis!

Glacier National Park is absolutely one of the most beautiful places/most memorable roadtrips I've ever been on. Did you see McDonald Lake? The colors of the rocks in that clear water are amazing. And the "weeping wall" is gorgeous. *sigh*
The only bad aspect of the trip for me was the constant elevation-related nose-bleeds...

Skeksis, oh man, you wanna stay the hell away from them that's for sure.
If they get close though, poke 'em with your whittled stick.

Yay, it's Winona the bear Slayer whittling a stake!

No one has ever looked so cute whilst whittling! Stay away from the deer and the waiters...

True Story: I recently visited my parents and watched "Richie Rich" in my old bedroom because the ancient TV only plays VHS tapes now. That movie entertained me at age 25 just as much as it did in 1994. They just don't make good children's cinema the way they used to, lemme tell ya.

Please don't get eaten by a bear, because I just found your blog and love it. I need for you to live, so that you can continue to entertain and inform me. Thanks for your cooperation.

P.S. You may want to whittle a larger spear.

P.S.S What's the name of that Mexican restaurant where they give awkward backrubs. Just kidding. No I'm not.

Cheers!

No vacation is complete without spitting deer and a skeksis scare. And Glacier National Park...indeed a place to be overcome. I didn't whittle while I was there, but I'm pretty sure I sang. :)

Winona! I am a long-time reader (like, two years long time) but first-time commenter, so this is a super momentous occasion for me, akin to giving my acceptance speech at the Academy Awards. Much like the winners, I "didn't have time to prepare a speech," but I did very much want to register my delight and bewilderment at your being spit on by a deer. Granted, my knowledge of spitting animals comes mainly from an Aladdin game I had for the SEGA wherein Aladdin, while escaping from the bad guys, would jump on a camel's back, causing the camel to spit. So I had to ask: did you jump on the deer's back?

You get weird and awkward back rubs from people at restaurants too?! I thought it was only me!

It's slightly unfortunate sometimes...unless they have strong hands...err..still really strange though.
