2 Tone Hoodie 2 Tough 2 Wear

Dear Ms. Winona, ambassador to excellent fashion advice,

I have been wanting to write you for quite sometime! However after the world boot crisis of '07...I figured I would have to come up with something rather pressing!

Being a girl who is usually a bit overdressed I really love this hoodie of mine. However, I am having a terrible time making an outfit of it since I am more partial to a nice skirt then a pair of pants. All my skirts I have now seem to do nothing for the silly thing, so I figure it was time to call in the professional for some tips!

Thanks in advance,

Yahtzee Enthusiast

Dear Yahtzee Enthusiast,

That is probably the most original pseudonym ever, and I didn't even think of it! I guess I should just retire...Don't retirees play a lot of Yahtzee? I've never played Yahtzee, actually. If I give you fashion advice, will you teach me?

But anyway, this is a challenging little hoodie indeed. I've spent many an hour admiring its whimsical beauty on American Apparel's website, but I'd never really thought about how it would work in an outfit. Ever since receiving your question, I've spent many an hour muttering to myself, "What the hell DO you wear with the damn thing??" My friends are starting to think I'm schizophrenic. In other news, I seem to have way too many free hours.

Back to the point: A hooded sweatshirt is by nature baggy and shapeless, so you want to wear something fitted on the bottom to showcase your hot bod. If you were to suddenly become partial to pants, I'd recommend a pair of slim jeans (yes, slim) with some bright colored flats, but if you're set on skirts (I'm such a skirt girl too), then go for a straight mini in a substantial fabric like denim.

Just in case you were like, "What's this denim mini she speaks of?"

I've always loved the combo of a slouchy top with a fitted mini skirt and tights (I kind of sort of maybe wear this combo every day...), and I think your sweatshirt will be perfect for it. A dark denim would look great with the colors of the hoodie, or you could go with distressed denim for a funkier feel. Add some gold tights and leather boots. Ooh! Or classic black tights with cobalt flats! Or blue tights and black wedges!
The possibilities are endless! The world is your oyster!*

I'm sure other readers own this hoodie, either in real life or fashion fantasy land--what do you guys wear it with? Any suggestions?

*Old writing adage: Two cliches are better than one.

i can't see the hoodie either... but if it looks like most american apparel hoodies, i've got a good guess. this might be a weird suggestion, but what about with a pencil skirt? some hoodies can look cute with a really light, girly dress as well, to bring up the contrast thing.

I do love that ever cheeky sneaky combo of a giant hoodie to make myself feel like a skinny minnie and a teensy tiny mini to emphasis the pins which are alas my only semi-ok asset...

Sadly, I cant see the hoody either! But for a skirt girl, thats what I would wear it with. Being a jeans girl, I team my hoodies with uggs (fake at the moment but real as soon as they are sent by my sister from Australia!) and skinny jeans, or, if at home, PJs. But the inventor of the hoody is my hero.

Thank you Winona! I am intrigued by your gold tights suggestion. It's mostly been a show of black mini with black black black black...

Thank you for sharing your powers of fashion! I see colour again! :D

Also I must note Yahtzee Enthusiast is kind of a front. I love the word Yahtzee, don't really know the first thing about the game! Shame on me!

Gah! Some days I want to throttle Blogger. Hopefully the problem is corrected now?

Great advice! I think if you have the balls to pull it off, this hoodie with some cutoff jean shorts, sweater tights, and flat ankle boots would be badass... or some retro shorts, OTK socks, and athletic shoes... I've had this problem lately too, as I seem to have an abundance of sweatshirts.

I think she should wear it pantsless, like the model.

I'm SO kidding!!

^ a girl at my uni wore this pantsless, well ok, she wore leggings. But the size of the hoodie she chose made it not even cover her bum, plus she was a taller girl, and well, the look did not compute.

Maybe even a cotton shorter skirt, or say even aa's jersey pocket skirt (that sort of style, same shape as the denim mini)that would be nice.

I love that hoodie, I've been lusting after it for ages. Unfortunately the horror stories I've heard about AA's shipping times have put me off getting it.

I think I'm an old fuddy-duddy (yes, I said it) compared to most of the commenters) -- I second the denim mini/above-the-knee skirt. This hoodie seems extremely appropriate to denim, especially something in a nice stonewashed blue. I also think it could be quite fetching with something in the ripstop cargo family. Classic black tights are a favorite and I think a nice stompy boot would be good, to balance out the large hoodie and petite skirt. Perhaps a black or brown equestrian style, or even, dare I say, a nice black army/jump/tank boot.

wow its pretty cool, a bit harley quinn. myself id rather like to pair it with a long american apparel tank top, the fabulous black shiny leggings and perhaps some low top converse or pointy brogues. or maybe denim hotpants with grey ribbed tights and leather biker boots. ooh the possibilities!

The combination of fitted mini and tights is my uniform too.

the typical uniform of every common singaporean girl is just that! a baggy top and mini skirts. u won't believe how mundane it's gotten after u've seen the 30th girl for the day walking in the heartlands with the exact same long straight hair and the exact same clothes as the one 1 metre ahead of her.

OK so it's really really lame to comment on a post that was posted 9 months ago but I can't resist! The combo posted here is definitely the most chic but I would clash it with as many other patterns as possible.
