I'm Gilmourning. God that was bad. I'm sorry.

The very last episode of Gilmore Girls ever is a week from today. Not to be dramatic, but I'm planning to drive my car off a cliff directly afterwards.

I seriously feel like I'm losing a good friend here. I mean, Rory (one of the main characters--if you're not familiar with the show, rent all the seasons on DVD and quit your job) and I grew up together! We were both nerdy high schoolers who went on to extremely prestigious universities (little known fact: Yale and Portland State are actually tied in the college rankings). We both had annoying preppy boys make fun of us for being smart and we both really enjoy pizza and bad movies. We even got dissed and dismissed by the New York Times within a week of each other during our senior year of college!

And yeah, I know the show isn't real. Kind of.

A part of me always knew that it couldn't last forever. Remember how Boy Meets World got really weird when the gang went to college and all of a sudden the whole show was just constant innuendo about how Cory and Topanga have sex all the time? That was kind of scary. And Gilmore Girls has managed to avoid the Creepy College Years (well, the whole losing-her-virginity-to-a-married-guy thing seemed really un-Roryish to me, but let's just pretend that didn't happen), so I guess we can only assume that the next phase would have been the Boring Working Years, in which the camera follows Rory from computer to coffee break and back again in her entry-level journalism job (the job I, too, dream of everyday).

Still, my pain is potent. Here are some dark and depressing dresses to mourn the passing of my favorite show:

Marc Jacobs, $2790, netaporter.com

Hanii Y, $470, netaporter.com

12th Street by Cynthia Vincent, $215, netaporter.com

Upon visiting the Dress Shop on the Nordstrom website, I was shocked to find that their "Shop by Event" section did not include "Mourning the Last Episode of Gilmore Girls." The bastards. So I had to find these on my own:

Maggy London, $178, nordstrom.com

Stop looking so damn happy, you heartless wench! Don't you know it's the end of an era?
As U Wish, $52, nordstrom.com

See? This girl's appropriately broken up about it:

Norma Kamali, $325, nordstrom.com

Thanks for the good times, ladies. I'm sure we'll meet again someday.

And yeah, I know the show isn't real. Kind of.

i would love to see a five mens first fashion impressions (did i say it right?) on that first marc jacobs dress. I'm kind of torn between whether I like it or not. It looks like something a female dracula might wear, but then again, the manniquins in net-a-porter.com always make things look half dead but oh well...

fabulous dresses. I´m in mourning too. I´ve spent the past weeks having Gilmore Girls marathons and now it just feels empty.

I am experiencing the same sense of loss! I too grew up with Rory! Same age, similar experiences...*sigh*

Gilmore Girls, you will be missed.

I am with you. Gilmore Girls is my favorite show too. Well, I guess there is always the Family Channel to watch the reruns. But I know that is not the same. I weep.

I got into this show because I too am half my mother's age and (was) a total overachiever. I stopped watching because I left the country for 2 years and was disappointed by the few bits & pieces I saw when I got back. She lost her virginity to a married man?!

there's another person in the world who remembers boy meets world?
god, i felt so awkward learning about cory's sex life. it was like listening to my grandpa talk dirty or something. just all around uncalled for.

The first three dresses remind me of a combination of The Scarlet Letter and the Salem Witch Trials. This is probably appropriate since both Rory and Hester Prynne lost their virginities to married men (since priests are considered married to the church or somesuch).

MOTHER OF PEARL! For like the past two weeks, I've just been thinking it's the SEASON finale... not SERIES. Now I want to cry.

So I saw on facebook that you were mourning the Gilmore Girls, But for some reason I had been shielded from this travesty until last night when i watched it (like usual) and they started talking about the "series finale" thats when it all sunk in....No more Rory, no more Luke, no more Gilmore-ness in my life! I am truly bummed. and i feel half retarded that I didn't know about this earlier since i am just a huge fan of them.....what am I going to do?!
and yes, i knew that Portland State and Yale are sister colleges that are ranked in the top 25 schools in the US, duh!
sad.

I don't know, I'm a little dismayed that someone as funny and insightful as you could like that show. The dialogue has a special power that causes my hand to grab silverware and gravitate towards my eye. Seriously, I can't watch it unless my hands are tied behind my back.

I'm obsessed with both Gilmore Girls AND seasons of Boy Meets World prior to the last season.
So yeah I loved this post. (:
