Back-from-the-Dead Blush

One of the perks of blogging is getting random packages from PR companies. The key word here would be "random." For example, last week I found a giant FedEx box crammed under my doormat. Inside was an eyelash curler, hand soap, blush, and approximately 40 pounds of gourmet popcorn.

As soon as I'd determined the package didn't come from a confused terrorist, I ate a bunch of popcorn and smeared a bunch of blush on my cheeks, and you know what? Both were kind of awesome. Since this is a fashion blog and not a specialty popcorn review site, let's focus on the blush.

The product I received was Ramy Beauty Therapy Juicy Cheeks in "Maya Papaya." It's a sheer cream blush that goes on bright pink, but then you smear it around and it fades to a subtle glow. See?

Sometimes I stay up all night writing and start to resemble one of the bloodless bodies from season one of Dexter, which is really upsetting. I love this blush because I can rub it on my cheeks and lips in the morning and suddenly I'm a vibrant young professional. (As opposed to a corpse.)

Here's the thing though: as you can see, the stuff is subtle. Super subtle. Which I guess is good, because it looks natural, but it's also expensive. Super expensive. Like, $24 a pop. And while one could argue that since it works well on cheeks and lips, you're basically getting two products for $12 each, that's still a lot of money for a subtle glow.

So, would I pay $24 for it? Probably not at the moment, because I have approximately $25 in my bank account and I need to save up for a ticket to see The Expendables in August*, but if I won the lottery, maybe I would. I mean, any product that can bring my face back from the dead is worth a bit of an investment, right?

*My boyfriend informed me that I woke up in absolute hysterics this morning because I had a dream that Bruce Willis, Jason Statham, and Jet Li had all drowned in the ocean while promoting this movie.

It is rather pretty, but I question whether any blush is $24 pretty... I realise this makes me a beauty slob, but I use an old cheap lipstick which didn't suit me on my cheeks in the morning, and it seems to do a similar job. Take that big beauty companies. x

Oh I really like that color on you! Gorgeous!

I appreciate your honesty. And being that anything in America is pretty much double the price in Australia, I'll only look at this once I have satisfied all of my movie going requirements.

You are SO pretty Winona! :)

I know Ramy! He used to work his own counter at Bergdorf's in NYC and he is the sweetest guy. His company is small but everything he makes is fabulous--not a ton of colors or products but what is there is FAB. He is a cancer survivor and does a lot of work for ladies going through that whole hell, making them look pretty when they don't feel that way, etc. Yay for his blush! You always look gorgeous, Winona, so you don't even need it, but I bet I do!

Penny--
That's great! Whatever works, right?

Anna and Lily--
Awww, thank you! :)

LSS--
Definitely. We must always prioritize culturally important action movies over cosmetics.

Aaahhh of course you know Ramy! That is so cool! Yeah this blush seems like it's really high quality and really thoughtfully made, which is awesome. I'd love to try some of his other stuff!

I saw that "Expendables" comment you made on FB and it got me smiling!

This blush works well on you. Luckily for you, it was free, and by the time you run out and need a new one, I bet you'll have 26 bucks in your account to buy a new one and have $2 leftover for . . . who knows?

That blush looks great on you! As someone who's regularly got that Dawn-of-the-Dead thing going on in the morning, I get it.
As usual, you're strumming my pain with your fingers and singing my life with your words...

You are very pretty. And I love the blush on you. I think you look smashing.

I don't feel like $24.00 is a lot for a blush, and I don't even wear make up. And believe me, I am cheap.

Best product review EVER! The blush looks absolutely gorgeous on you, but I agree that the $24 cost is a bit extreme.

P.S. I'm not a huge commenter, but I am a HUGE fan! You are hilarious and one of my absolute favorite reads. Most fashion blogs I'm mostly in for the pictures, but I can never wait to read what saucy stuff you have to say. XOXO!

3 great action stars wiped out by one tragedy?! This rivals the Buddy Holly/Ritchie Valens/Big Bopper plane crash in devastation.

OT but I gave you an award on today's post! Check it out:

If I can look as awesome as you after living here in lovely portland (and eschewing my phoenician tanability), I will consider myself one lucky sunnabeech.

You're so beautiful! I love your nose, perhaps it's the blush that bring out your cheeks and enhance your nose, I don't know.

Anyway the point is you're pretty and you're lucky to receive gifts like this through mail. :)

I'm still stuck at "crammed under [your] doormat." How did that work??

I love the idea of things that work as both blushes and lipsticks. I read once (in Cosmo or something) that your blush and lipstick should match to look natural, and I've never found a blush-lipstick duo anywhere. If I had 25 bucks to spend on (non-foundation) makeup, I'd probably go for this--for now I'll stick to dotting some lipstick on my cheek and rubbing it in. It gives the same sort of subtle glow and I always get free lipstick when I buy foundation (ALWAYS go to the counter with the free gift :P)

Thanks for sharing! I'll have to check this out sometime when...well, when I actually have money.

You have immensely beautiful skin Lady W. I try blush, every kind of blush, but still always end up looking like a corpse - just a somewhat flushed corpse.
