High Fashion Haiku Sonnet

I have the best readers ever, seriously. Delilah wrote this sonnet for her high school English class, and if she doesn't get an A, I will happily visit her school to throttle the teacher:

Ode to Christian Louboutin (And His Shoes)

Thine red soled slippers doth my heart swoon

My closet doth yearn for thy chic style

Even though heels make my ankles break soon

For you, love, I'd march more than a mile

Black patent leather are quite a classic

With a peep-toe, or not is your option

Yet thy price is longer than Jurassic

I sincerely hope for your adoption

Should a miracle happen, such as that

I would do a very big happy dance

See? I love you just as much as my cat

Thy geniosity must hail from France

And although you may not know my name or face

Should I grade thee, t'would surly be an ace

You'd have to move faster than the despotic Queen of Shoes and trust me, I've been dodging jail time for the last 20 years...so I can move-faster-the-wind!

Imelda says A+ Deliah

Pretty jealous-making I have to admit... what can I say it's awesome!!!

Sonnets are, like, the most difficult poetry form.

Argh jealousy!!!!!!

We had an assignment to write a sonnet in my British Literature class. What can I say:

In your dreams you never teeter-totter ungracefully
But in reality? This image is not to be fulfilled today,
As clear glass and chrome separate you mercilessly
From the red-hued dream and their attached cachet.
Wavering now, torn between illusion and reality
Hand hovering, undecided, your mind racing
As a friendly voice urges you to irrationality
Justification blooms and sets you to pacing
Finally acquiescing and accepting the red lure,
Giving in to the welcome rush of acquisition
As you realize the long-lasting effects of this cure
Far outweigh the temporary financial condition.
So whenever you’re doubting or have the blues
Skip lunch, and instead buy the Christian Lous

Ah, shoes.

Far be it for me to play rainmaker in my first post here at Daddy Likey (I love this blog; I just never could screw up the courage to post a reply, because Winona's writing style often leaves me dripping with tears of joy)--and I admit I'm not an expert on sonnet form--but although both the OP sonnet and the one posted above follow the traditional English sonnet rhyme scheme, as far as I know neither of them are technically sonnets, as they both lack iambic pentameter.

Sorry; I'm an English major; we're trained to be anal and point these things out. They're funny poems, though! And sonnets in any case, man, they're frigging hard to write...

I'm with Kage; I was tripping and lurching all over the meter.

I'll be right in line after you to beat that teacher down if no "A" is forthcoming.

It's really great work.

Eileen--Wonderful work! I would give you an A+ too!

Kage--Hahaha I'm a comm/writing major with a hidden streak of English major in me, so I totally understand. I'll write a post in true iambic pentameter in the future for sure (and no, I'm not being sarcastic--keep an eye out for it!).

this makes me think of the poem:
cobbler cobbler mend my shoes,
careful now they're christian lous
these red soles will never date
they'll still be hot in spring 08

i guess it was written a while ago.
