Color Theory

Our junior year of high school, my BFF Rachel and I took a color theory class at the local community college. Our teacher was possibly insane, and spent a few classes quietly crying in the corner. Rachel and I spent every class getting inadvertently high on Sharpie fumes and screwing up our assignments so bad that I failed a gray scale project (translation for those of you unfamiliar with the art world: I failed mixing white and black paint). The one thing I do remember from that class, the one thing that wasn't lost in a haze of permanent marker chemicals, is that blue and orange are opposites on the colorwheel, and therefore, they look mega good together.

Whenever I pair my favorite blue tights with my new orange shoes, I feel like that class was maybe worth it:

Tights: We Love Colors (Read my WLC rave review here)
Shoes: Nine West, from Marshalls

p.s. Does anyone else hate summer solely because you can't enjoy colorful hosiery without guaranteed death by heatstroke? I'm moving to Antarctica.

That is just the most attractive shade of orange I've seen in a long time... in sheeny shiny satin, no less!

I still read your blog religiously. (And have come to terms with scarves, btw). This is another great post.

I'm quite a fan of orange. Having had no sleep last night (small baby), the first thing I noticed about this picture was that it looks like two smurfs wearing orange turbans....right, I'm going to get me some coffee.

HA HA HA Smurfs! Also, from reading whatiwore2day, I have learned that nude (or any color) fishnet hose/tights are perfect for summer. No bare legs, but not as hot as tights. Of course I am really into the bare legs and flats thing, too; it's just harder to find flats that look good on my bare feet for some reason.

Someone told me a colorwheel pun YESTERDAY! They chose to focus on blue and orange, too, which makes me feel like you are lurking in my lab.

Cute shoes!

If you're missing your tights, try visiting Toronto, where winter is a hearty 7 months long. So sad.

Mega is right. This is fantastic.

Rad shoes.

And oh, I feel your pain Winona. My pile of tights have been draped across my closet door for about a month now. Sure they have each other for company, but it's just not the same...

That picture woke me up!

I love mixing and matching unexpected colors. Something tells me I might have flunked a color theory class all together.

I miss my winter hosiery! I am on the lookout for foot rings and half socks (like these things http://www.sockdreams.com/_shop/pages/socks_cat_CategoryID_27.php )

in FUN COLORS, not just black/white/light pink/beige. Come on, foot ring/half sock makers! There's an untapped market here!

At least tights will be back in the fall and I'm hoping to make some ombre stockings like Lady Coveted.

But I did buy they most amazing italian small fishnets in nude and light cream which are great for the summer.

1) Nice work on the flats! Finding things on sale makes them twice as fun to wear, I always say.

2) I just happened to see this online at Blood is the New Black (which is actually near my house), and first I thought of Winona Ryder, and then I thought of ou. Tell your boy if he really loved you, he'd order it for you right away.

I love the shoe/tights color combo. Yes, I'm missing my tights terribly, even though I get rude comments about how "seizure inducing" they are every time I wore a non-black pair to school. Actually, the weather here has been rather chilly and I'm happy to break out the tights again, although now it's mostly white, for more of a summery feel.

OH MY GOODNESS WINONA!
YOU COULD COME LIVE IN CANADA, WITH MEEEE!
well, my summer is really humid where I live and can get to like...40 (I don't know what that is in farenheit, sorry)
and man, I have hardcore tights envy right now...ever since I was little I've NEVER worn "pantyhose" or anything like that, I just can't...but when people were nice colours like that I'm like :( :(

Claire--
Gah! "Seizure inducing"? What sort of unenlightened troglodytes populate your school?

Bekah--
I'm on my way! Please set up the air mattress on the floor and clear a space in your closet for my extensive collection of colorful hosiery!
