My Internet-Free Life, Courtesy of Comcast

As you may have noticed, I haven't been posting lately. This is because my internet has been on the fritz, and by "on the fritz," I mean it works for approximately five minutes, or until you are about to post/save/send something important, and then it dies. In other news, CURSE YOU TO HELL, COMCAST! I was trying to tell my brother earlier that we should think of Comcast's horrific customer service as a comforting taste of home, kind of like a care package from mom filled with cookies and candy and exorbitant fees for services that don't work, but I fizzled out mid-sentence because I couldn't make myself believe it.

A rude repair person is supposed to arrive on Wednesday, at least three hours after the scheduled appointment time, for our convenience.

My boyfriend and my brother Devin visited this weekend. Here's a smattering of snapshots from our internet-free life:

Oregon Paleocastor, represent!

p.s. Click here for a sweet rundown of titillating (OK, not at all) facts about Wasilla, Alaska! Also, a super huge hint about where I'm spending my days as an intern.

Winona! Way to go on the sweet internship- National Geographic!?

However, nothing changes that there is so much free wifi in DC, and I'm hoping you work off a laptop? In which case, there is no reason for you to not be gracing us with your internet-presence more regularly! My personal recommendation would be Busboys and Poets- cafe/bookstore at 14th and V NW (really part of the U St Corridor). Great coffee, great food, free wifi, funky bookstore, comfy couches...

Wow... that was the hugest "hint" ever, Winona! :)

Even though I don't actually know you (since we've never met in person) I feel like I do, due to our one-degree of seperation (Little Miss Lindsay P.), our similiar sense O' humor, the fact that we lived in the same hood and the fact that I religiously read your blog... so I feel comfortable saying I AM SO PROUD OF YOU! Rock on with your bad self, girlfriend!

Hugs!

Internet-free works for me if the photos are always this good!

Nice one, Winona!

Wait, you're saying that there's life outside of the Internet?

Comcast blowwwws. We fired them last month and are never looking back! We use AT&T and Dish now. $50 less a month for wayyy better service = win.

What a cool place to intern!! Go you! I have read National Geographic for as long as I can remember (partly because my parents have always subscribed, partly because I'm a big nerd).

Your pics are so cute! I know we made plans to be BFF in London, but I'm moving to Tokyo now, instead, does that change everything? (Hopefully not, because Tokyo is about 17 different kinds of awesome!!)

oooo. National Geographic. I'm super jealous. I used to work at the building right next door. You should try out the Indian place on the corner, Naan and Beyond.

Something was wrong with the network connections in one area of our office one day. My phone stopped working, but thank God I had Internet! I'm so addicted it's quite sad.

National Geographic, wow! You've become about 10 times cooler in my eyes. I read your piece on Wasilla...that movie ticket price seems curiously inflated.

My favorite pic is the 2nd to last. The expression on your face is a perfect contrast (meant or not) to the well lit object just to your left.

Love the campaign buttons!

Wal-Mart?...
Kiddin'. Good for you, girl :) Those past few days without your posts have been tough...

You scored MAJOR on the internship! WAY TO GO! Loved the write up too. Very well done.

Pictures of your weekend were lovely. Looks like a fun time was had by all. Ok, maybe not the Paleocastor, extinction does have its downside.

Hope Comcast rights themselves in your eyes. Good luck!

OMG! NatGeo?

I'm going to have to somehow kidnap you and take over your identity!

I love the last two pics! When we went to the Natural History Museum in NYC, we kept yelling to each other when we found minerals that were from North Carolina. We felt famous!

; )

PS Great food in Adams Morgan too.

You seriously rock a pair of aviators. Did you read about how Palin married two Walmart employees in the aisles of the store? She gives me nightmares.

CONGRATS ON THE RAD INTERNSHIP, GUH!

OMG, so excited for you! I mean, assuming that your internship is at National Geographic and not, for instance, clipping Marc Silver's toenails.

If you see anything around the office that pertains to wombats, will you PLEASE nick it for me?

NatGeo?? OMG you are living my childhood dream (well, I just wanted them to pay me to travel...)

make sure you ask comcast to give you a credit for the days your service wasn't working. they will give it to you, but you have to specifically ask for it (ridiculous, i know).
