Five Men's Fashion First Impressions: Ripping Apart The Holy Shirt

Because apparently the theme this week is having the funny guys in my life do my blogging work for me, behold, a holy shirt:

Shirt, $39.99 (originally $60), Urban Outfitters

Thomas featured this on The Sunday Best a couple weeks ago, and after reading his kinda sorta open-minded post, I couldn't resist asking the Five Men* for their two cents (ten cents total?).

So yeah, here we go:

Father: Even thin people shouldn't wear horizontal stripes. Do more holes cost more?

Brother, age 19: After escaping Chateau d'if, Edmond Dantès abandoned his vendetta in order to sit at Starbucks in his skinny jeans explaining that he is a transgressional fiction novelist pursuing urban photography.

Brother, age 14: Looks like pre-made zombie invasion wear. Looks like a veteran of the war, the zombie war of course.

Boyfriend: I wish I would have known that I could sell an old shirt with holes in it for $60. I could have made $60.

Brother, age 22: The Russian kid from my third grade class who got sucked into a grain thresher wore this exact shirt. Its cool, he's alive.

*If this is your first experience with the Five Men's Fashion First Impressions feature, you may want to read the introduction here. And you could also read this post about my dad's dream Father's Day gifts if you want. You know, just to get a feel for the fam.

Am I the only one who sees this photo and thinks donuts? It must be the holes and the whole I've been workin' the back kitchen vibe.

Yes...it's just me. Been working too hard.

That shirt looks like it has some digusting flesh disease. Not a nice first impression to have about a shirt...

Man, what is it with Pacific Northwest elementary schools and their token Russian kids with scraggly bowl cuts and striped shirts?

I think mine was named Viktor.

Striped holey t-shirts, should be terrible, but weirdly don't look it? Admittedly holes resemble mouse-like gnaws, but it looks really okay. Maybe it's the model though, he has that nice mannish stance! :)

As funny as your guys are (and they are), I think I'm most amused by the fact that Urban Outfitters is selling that shirt.

For $40. ON SALE. BWAH!

Its ugly jeez people its free to put your own holes in your shirts and its gonna happen over time anyways!
I love your brothers opinions!

Eesh. I could see this layered on a dude, but just imagine someone way hairier than the model wearing it ... peek-a-boo fuzz!

LOLOL "the zombie war of course."

As Sal says, I just pictured this on my husband, who sadly would fit her description perfectly. This shirt is very discriminatory toward the hairier folk.

HA! i just watched the count of monte cristo yesterday! this is awesome.

The shirt would be better if there was just one nipple hole.

Ooh this is TOTALLY zombie invasion attire! That male model just needs a little bit of brain stuck to the corner of his mouth and slouchier posture to pass as a zombie.

It looks like Woodrow Wilson had a go at this shirt... seems he kind of enjoyed it.

Wait, that kid lived after getting sucked into a grain thresher??! Amazing! And hard to say which of the 5 is my favorite, they're all so good!

I love your 14 year old brother, I thought the exact same thing when I saw it, then nearly choked to death laughing so hard at the comments. Want to trade for my 14 year old sister? She went all emo on me and thought it was cool.

Brother ages 19 seems to get fashion!!!

I think the funniest thing about that photograph is the model's smoothy chest, which can be seen through the holes. Is that better than hair peeking through? I don't know.

Katie said...

yes! younger brother for the win! 'pre-made zombie invasion wear'- genius!!

Your 14 year old brother has a fixation with zombies. Not that that's a bad thing fo course.
I have mixed feelings about mens t-shirts with holes in. On the right boy and on the right tshirt they can be OK, but this is all wrong. Wrong, wrong, wrong.
