Five More Questions

The lovely Meg at Faking Good Breeding tagged me for this little survey a few days ago. The last time I filled out one of these, I wrote an introduction that included a fairly detailed analogy about STD trees. This time, I'm gonna skip the chlamydia and get right to the good stuff (and wow, if I had a nickel for every time I've used that phrase...)

1. What book is currently on your nightstand?

Well, I just bought Full Frontal Feminism as a gift for someone, but then I accidentally opened it and read half of it and now she can't have it until I'm done. God I'm a bad friend.

I also recently finished Leave The Building Quickly, which you'll probably like if you like my writing style. My mom was originally drawn to it because of the silly floating dog on the cover, but then she read a few sentences, became convinced that I had published a book under a pseudonym, and bought it in order to confront me. Sadly, this was untrue. But the book was funny.

2. Who are your personal heroes or role models?

My parents--for being stable enough to not screw me up, but weird enough to provide me with endless material.

My boyfriend--for getting through a lot of bad shit and coming out the other side a better person than I'll ever be.

David Sedaris--If only we could all write so funny and be so rich (and by "we," I mean, "I").

3. How do you relieve stress?

Being active is great--taking a walk, dancing, lifting weights, playing catch. But eating a whole bunch of ice cream and watching Elimidate is better.

4. What music do you like?

Let's see...I love oldies the most, but also rock, 80's, and embarrassing pop (I use "embarrassing" as a quantifier here because my friend Rachel would want me to, but really, I'm not embarrassed--Fergie 4 Lyfe!).

Here are my top 3 songs for summer driving:

David Bowie--Suffragette City

The Knack--My Sharona

The Kinks--You Really Got Me

5. What personal care product can't you live without?

St. Ive's Apricot Scrub. It's mega-exfoliating, so you're only supposed to use it 3 times a week, but I'm a badass so I use it everyday. And oh boy does my defiance pay off.

I would like to tag The Queens, Ambika, Joei, and Robin. Also, anyone who's bored at work (or school or home) right now. Waste a little time (who's gonna notice, really?) and fill it out yourself in the comments section!

Alrighty! I shall answer my Questions as requested Lady W!

1. What book is currently on your nightstand?
Don't laugh but it's a book called Castle by Marc Morris. Yes, it is a book about castles. Really. I am deeply obsessed by them. That's because I'm a Queen you see.

2. Who are your personal heroes or role models?
I don't have any as such, but Joan of Arc never fails to impress me. My mum too, as she kicked cancer's ass and still did the housework whilst doing it!

3. How do you relieve stress?
I don't. I bottle it up until such time (which could take years) I eventually explode in a tornado of hissy fit. The last real bad episode saw me throw a potato at my boyfriend about 6 years ago. I missed (it was a baby potato). He laughed.

4. What music do you like?
I like good jackin' house and a major dose of techno.

5. What personal care product can't you live without?
Neutrogena Blackhead Clearing Scrub. This stuff is amazing. I can't live without it. That and Olay Daily Fluid SPF15. It does keep wrinkles at bay.

Parents, natch.
Boyfriend - for much the same reason as you Winona.
And bestfriend - 'cos she's the most caring, cynical, beautiful person ever.

3. How do you relieve stress?
With sleep. And lots of tidying and cleaning. I'm borderline OCD.

4. What music do you like?
I'm not going to answer this. It'll save me the embarassment.

5. What personal care product can't you live without?
Lush's "Angels on Bare Skin". Man...that stuff....amazing.

1. What book is currently on your nightstand?

The 4 Hour Work Week by Tim Feriss and The Pillars of Hercules by Paul Theroux.

2. Who are your personal heroes and role models?

Right now, anyone who's managed to successfully follow the lifestyle design principles from 4 Hour Work Week - think of all that free time to shop, write, other hobbies, etc. (and maybe watch hilariously awful TV - I find Tyra Banks and Girls Next Door strangely compelling).

3. How do you relieve stress?
Lift weights or punch things, preferably both (violent tendencies? Moi? Never!)

4. What kind of music do you like?
Depends on my mood. When working out, I like cheesy pop music and showtunes, but the rest of time, I listen to classic rock and hip hop.

5. What personal care product can't you live without?
Mascara. Waterproof, jet black, lash-curling mascara. I'm pretty sure that no one has seen me without mascara on in years.

I just have to tell you that I love your blog! You're an amazing writer. Having such a great handle on humor is such a rare thing.

Also, I had to read the part about your favorite music aloud to my roommate, because she's constantly teasing me about my love of pop music. Sure, I love indie rock, but Fergie is pretty damn good. And "My Sharona" and "You Really Got Me" just may be two of the best songs ever.

Ah, Fergie Ferg. Has she been taking her estrogen pills? Because she totally looks like she's rocking that double-X-chromosome in her album pic.

MMMMY SHARONA! I can't hear that song without belting it out loud and proud like a drunken sorority girl.

1. What book is currently on your nightstand?
Perfume by Patrick SĪ‹skind but it kinda freaks me out so I can't read more than ten pages at a single time as well as Special Topics in Calamity Physics by Marisha Pessl but than has been on my nightstand for a long time and am now just highliteing other books refrenced that I now need to read.

2. Who are your personal heroes and role models?
My friend Eric for taking pictures with road kill and finding thrilling photo oppertunities at everywhere. People who can sew I really really want to learn how to sew because I can't even sew buttons back on to shirts and that makes me sad.

3. How do you relieve stress?
Running or swimming cause it is easy to do.

4. What kind of music do you like?
Well I really like showtunes and oldies when I'm driving. Normally however I listen to The Shins, Wolf Parade, and Bright Eyes... indie rock perhaps.

5. What personal care product can't you live without?
Toothpaste... no that is too easy, Bumble and Bumble powder because washing your hair everyday is for losers.

oh gosh winona. as a regular reader of yours, i must warn you that the st. ives apricot scrub is baaaad for your skin (as told by countless amount of sephora employees). apparently, the crystals are too rough and altough it might seem like its working, its really damaging for your skin and it comes back to bite you when youre older. you should talk to your local sephora employee.... good luck!

LOL! its like you copied everything that i was thinking in this blog of yours.
I love St. Ives Apricot scrub but I use the medicated version, everyday! it gives me the same tingly sensation as medicated cream, but it gives your skin a healthy dose of exfoliation as well!
Oh Winona! Fergie is my fav as well. my lovely lady lumps just can't sit still whenever i hear her music.
