Awesome Affordable Etsy Find of the Week!

I've always been a huge fan of narwhals, mostly because they are basically a manatee crossed with a unicorn (and who's gonna argue with that?), but I've also spent an embarrassing amount of time pondering which member of the animal kingdom I'd most want to be friends with, and the narwhal consistently comes out on top.

I mean, narwhals are always smiling in photos, plus you could store various snack items on their tusks, they would give really satisfying hugs, and I have a feeling they wouldn't judge me for crying during Extreme Makeover: Home Edition. I guess I just feel like if you ever had to be like, "Narwhal, I'm having a tough week," your narwhal friend would say, "I'm here for you." And then tenderly tip down its tusk to offer you a cake donut.

I'm almost positive my dad is going to leave a comment on this post listing all the reasons why a narwhal would actually be a lousy friend, but I don't care. I still really want this necklace.

I just wanted to say that facebook recommended you as a 'person I may know'.
I do not know, or even live in the same country as you.
But I loved facebook for thinking I was cool enough to be your friend.

Wait, is there a chance that that could puncture a vein? I'm kinda tired now but that's how it looks to me.

Husband Mike has a thing for narwhals. He got the word wrong for ages, saying "narlish" instead. Might have to get this ... for him, or for me!

A narwhal sounds like my kind of pal.

Wow, that is pretty effin adorable. I love the bright color with the silhouette, kind of punky but classy at the same time.

That tusk looks sharp, though! It would make me feel more confident about walking down dark alleys at night. A dude pops out for a mugging and I am all, "BACK OFF, JERKWAD, OR FEEL THE MIGHT OF MY NARWHAL TUSK."

Speaking of food speared on tusks, have you seen this comic?

Narwhal which supposedly means "corpse-whale" in Old Norse language has never been suited to captivity and put on exhibit in aquaria as has its close relative the beluga. The males appears to be quite pugnacious in the wild and are often seen "tusking", crossing swords, as it were. Otherwise, injuries from the tusks as weapons appear to be rare or accidental in occurrence. Generally the left incisor in males grows into the recognizable tusk of adults. It is probably a secondary sex characteristic like a lion's mane or an Armani suit on John Gotti.
Totems notwithstanding, such as the key fob which attempts to capture and convey some essence of the animal, I like Narwhals because they are wild and unique and have not been tamed into a human framework of reference.

IHGP
but I like Narwhals

Is there any downside to this thing?
It's pretty cheap too actually, even with international shipping :)

You wouldn't find the narwhal on my list of favorite animals, and despite your charming description, I'm not compelled to buy this necklace. However, the image of a narwhal offering a cake donut from its tusk is endlessly amusing, and that has made my Monday. So thank you for that.

Excuse my ignorance, but are narwhals real? I hope so :)

Ha-larious! My son is 19 months old and we got Eric Carle's ABC book at the library. He gets annoyed with Ants-Bird-Crocodile etc. and always wants to skip to the Narwhal page. (It sounds more like wa-wa when he says it though.) I guess you're kindred spirits.

I cry during the Extreme Makeover: Home Edition show too!...oh and Hallmark commericals that include fathers or grandfathers (that one where the dad had to learn to read so he could read all the cards his kid sent him) EGADS Hallmark! My kids think I'm nuts and scoot way over to one side of the couch and stare at me. It's never occured to me until now but perhaps I'm in need of a narwhal to comfort me:)
