Michael Kors in the Garden of Good and Evil

So I have this friend, who may or may not be me, who once ordered a pair of amazing Michael Kors shearling wedge boots from Nordstrom after an exhaustive search for the perfect winter footwear. She waited a long while for her boots to arrive, checking the mail everyday and always being disappointed. Finally, after many weeks, she called Nordstrom to say that her boots were still not there, and Nordstrom agreed that they must be lost in the mail and sent her the very last pair in her size as a replacement. Very soon, she came home to find a big package sitting on her bed...and a big package sitting on the floor near her bed. She opened both to discover that the new pair had arrived on the same day that the old pair had been unlost--an intriguing situation indeed. When she tried on the boots, they were too big; she now had two pairs of boots that didn't fit, and she'd only paid for one. My friend returned the new pair immediately but thought about the fate of the old pair for many moons--surely Nordstrom had mail insurance, surely God had engineered this as a test, surely God intended her to sell the extra pair of boots on ebay...

So that's what she did, despite the shaky moral ground and constant fear of Nordstrom employees in Chanel sunglasses knocking on her door and handcuffing her for boot fraud, and guess what? She ended up selling the boots at a fairly good price to a woman from the Bronx, who may or may not be Satan, who threw a fit about not getting the boots fast enough and who somehow got her homenumber and harrassed her for days about issues both boot and non-boot related in her shrill, patronizing, overall satanic tone. And this is when my friend came to believe in karma.

When I saw these very similar and arguably cooler Michael Kors boots on bluefly.com for half their original price, the memories (of my friend. my friend's memories. duh.) came flooding back, and I want to buy them in the right size and keep them and love them and wear them all winter and revel in the ethicality of it all. For my friend. I will revel for my friend.

What's your shoe size? I want them too. Perhaps we can have shared custody. I need them, but what would you do with a pair of shearling boots in Hawaii? I think this means I'll get the first year of our shared custody, you'll get the second, when you're back in a colder climate.
