Now Girlshop seems cold and unfeeling...

My dear friend Rachel just discovered Azalea, an online boutique with a great selection of amazingly cute clothes and accessories. Behold but a small sampling of their dress collection:

Much raved-about Voom dress, on sale for $76

See by Chloe, very not-on-sale.

MK2K Sweater dress, $165

Soda Blu, $105

Sonia, on sale for $400...good god that's a crappy sale

Julie Brown, $297

Fremont, $105

Corey Lynn Calter, $150

They even have a dress that will make you look exactly like the Little Mermaid when she washes up on the beach naked and has her first outfit put together with some rope by a crab and a seagull:

Please tell me you remember that scene, because I swear, we're talking exact replica here.

Anyway, so right now you're probably thinking, "Welcome to Boringville, population: this blog." Oh, wait, does nobody else think in really lame phrases that were popular twenty years ago? Okay let me try again: So, right now you're probably thinking, "Cute dresses, yeah, but come on, I've seen it all before. Just another online boutique. What's the big deal?"

Let me tell you, my skeptic compadre. If you happen to order something from Azaleaonline.com, not only do you get free ground shipping and supercute clothes, but as my dear friend found out, you also receive, well, this:

Hey Rachel,
Thanks for your order, it has been shipped. I'm glad we were able to get the Voom dress for you! Great choice on the Rachel Pally dress, can you imagine such an elegant dress that is so comfy? Well let me know if I can help you with anything else, talk to you soon!
Anita

As Rachel put it, "It's like I bought a friend!"

Net-a-porter send messages like that too! I'm so suckered into this clever marketing ploy of pretending to really value my custom and totally remember me from the last time I bought something, like 9 months ago!

I have to say, I'd be startled and pleased. In an odd way, despite it being email, I'd probably buy into this compliment a lot more than some random sales girl telling me I look great in whatever I'm trying on. Clearly, I'm a sucker.

Oh yes, we do think in phrases that were popular 20 years ago. And it gets worse as you get older. But it's funnier, too!

Well...I just have to comment as one of those who write the notes in our packages and email our customers - it's not just a marketing ploy...we really do care. We are so into what we do we want to tell you everything we can about the designer and the garment. I am sure some sites do it for "other" reasons and I cannot comment as to their intentions, but just know when you visit us - it is all sincere. We even have online chat so we can talk to you about items you are interested in before you make a purchase. If you haven't heard of Unsung, I hope you will check us out.

Wow I've never gotten a personal email from an online store after I bought something. They all have something to learn from this one.

Yeah, a was shocked when I got a message from NET-A-PORTER congratulating me on scoring a pair of Marc Jacobs pumps on sale. It does feel like you have new friend who maybe, just maybe, could toss you an occasional discount. Yeah, like that could happen!

ohhh I'm sooo over the Voom dress :-)
Its nice when you buy somehting and you actually get a real respone. Shop Robertson and Blondette and great like that.

Samida, NAP ain't NEVER gonna throw you a bone like that! I've spend thousands on NAP over the years, do I get a discount? Do I heck! But the wee notes are nice and I must admit, they have been known to keep things for me that I might like as an alternative to something I've had to send back that's perhaps sold out since, so that's always helpful. It's definitely my favourite shop.

I love the voom dress! I went to voom store 2weeks ago and the same baby doll was not on sale. I guess it's been selling really well in the store! I think, $76 for that dress was a joke! The website tried to create the traffic by lowering the price like creazy which is absolutely not right for the business!
